The Society

The Society has a good collection of Historic OS mapping online. This page is part of a much larger offering the Society has see this page as a starting point, and the sections and pages beneath.

 The Ordnance Survey

Outside of the Society, The Ordnance Survey had until recently opened up its tiled images of the Explorer (1:25,000), Landranger (1:50,000) and smaller-scale mapping to the public. This service has from 31st August 2021 been removed however.

The OS does continue to offer this as a 'paid-for' service though with its 'Premium' offering. It also offers images of mapping at 1:250,000 scale for a free download from here as a taster. The OS service can be accessed from their site here, with the breakdown of options/costs from here. Basically the free service now shows just the vector tiles areas down to street level (so you can see street names), while the paid-for service will supply the tiles of the published mapping at the various scales.
